Thank you, thank you, thank you, one and all! You've turned me on to some true gems, some of which I've already listened to, and others I can't wait to check out! SkyDawg, you hit the nail right on the head with:

What I have always hated was how the band often cut the ending of Wharf Rat short and went straight into Around & Around or some such thing. . . . I always wished the band had let the Rat wander around a little longer before going into some other song..

Couldnt' have said it better myself; indeed, that's exactly what I was getting at. Interestingly enough, with regard to this, yesss!'s show post of 9/23/72 goes right to the heart of that very issue: the song ends on its own! No "straight into" anything else! I can't think of any other instance where that is the case. The version is worth its weight in gold for that reason alone.

Something else I remembered and decided to listen to again was the one from the New Year's Eve show of '87 at the Oakland Coliseum. I have the VHS of this ("Ticket to New Year's"), and when I watched it awhile back, I was taken aback by the lenghty "I know that the liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife I'm livin' is no good"; really blew me away. So, I've included that one here as well, for anyone interested.

(Well, I tried to access the link for the show, but the site is having issues. Hopefully you'll be able to find the show if you want a listen.)

Again, thanks, everyone. Looking forward to hearing everyone's suggestions.

Paul

Here are a couple European Rats that also end without going into other songs you may want to check out sometime.

Thanks. Another one that comes pretty close, and is worth a listen for any other Rat fans is the gem I just discovered today while looking for - ironically enough, considering the venue - for "Franklin's Tower"s:

Some real nice intro work from Jerry and Phil, and Keith's playing gets featured quite nicely throughout. Not the greatest recording as far as the vocals are concerned, but the aud energy is stellar, and the band certainly puts in their share, esp. at the end. Beautiful outro, too.
